Tools, best practices, and opportunities to meetup

# Best Practices
Our list of best practices for building Taps and Targets is growing!
  • Metrics: Build your Tap to periodically emit structured log messages containing metrics about read operations. This will help you and other users of the Tap monitor its health, debug issues, and improve performance.
  • Catalog: We’ve expanded schema discovery and property selection to use a catalog, which is a mechanism for a Tap to indicate what streams it makes available. This allows users to select certain streams and properties within those streams.
# Singer tools
We’re always thinking of tools that can make working with Singer Taps and Targets easier.
The `singer-infer-schema` tool parses a sample of JSON-formatted data and produces a basic schema. This is a great starting point for defining your Tap schema.
You can see all of our tools in our GitHub repo, contribute your own with a PR, or share your ideas by creating an issue.
# The Singer roadmap
Check out the public roadmap for more details on Taps, Targets, tools and other work related to Singer.
# Let’s meetup
Our Developer Evangelist, Ash, will be at the Nordic APIs 2017 Platform Summit in Stockholm in October. Shoot Ash a DM in the Singer Slack community to meetup there and talk shop, or put time on her calendar to chat at any time.
# How to get involved
Join the Singer Slack community to chat with us and other users of Singer. Feel free ask questions, bounce ideas around, and make suggestions.
Looking to get even more involved? You can contribute to Singer by reviewing documentation, resolving issues in GitHub repos, or tackling an item from the roadmap wishlist
Singer is sponsored by Stitch, a fully-managed data pipeline. With Stitch you can run Singer Taps on your schedule, stream the data to your warehouse, and enjoy automated monitoring and alerting.
